An Inaugural Experiment

You know those annoying forum signatures, those chain letter-ish ones that say something like, "98% of all teenagers have smoked pot. If you are one of the 2% who haven't, copy and paste this into your signature." Or the old classic, "I believe in Jesus Christ my Savior. If you do too, paste this into your signature."

Well, how about this?
I believe in Barack Obama as my personal savior. If you do too and aren't afraid to admit it, copy and paste this into your signature.
Time for me to update my deviantART sig and spread the word! ;) Feel free to join in.

I'm very curious to discover who will be offended by this and how much. Let's see what happens. :D

I doubt anyone will be offended, though many will not like to be reminded of politics or anything serious on a site oriented toward more casual things.

I never liked chain letters and tags like that because it makes you into a statistic, a billboard. Labels can be helpful, but they often preclude discussions by letting people assume they already understand your views. If you're really interested in having an effect, make your signature a specific claim that invites debate.

Yeah, it doesn't seem like people have taken much notice of it. Oh well. :p Maybe I'll leave it up for a few more days just in case.

Good point about chain letters and labels and such. I wouldn't really use a forum signature as a way to express my views or personality so much, but if I ever chose to I like your idea about making a "specific claim that invites debate." Sounds like that'd be an effective way to go about it.
