This is the first time in history i have ever heard of a game contributing to scientific work. i teared a little. never have i been more proud to call myself a gamer and a student pursuing a game career. keep up the good workRahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06125780360029548490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17282500.post-60660021977343092712011-04-16T08:46:00.439-07:002011-04-16T08:46:00.439-07:00Hey, thanks for the comment. And yes, it's very pioneering, and yes, it still has a ton of issues with the interface, unfortunately. And yes, I agree with you that interaction and games hold a lot of promise for this kind of stuff, despite our crude beginnings.

Good luck to you on learning how to do this stuff! It's a huge challenge but I believe that we are on the path to something significant and great.axchohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00476494070603611505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17282500.post-25450235889213478562011-04-12T12:12:34.850-07:002011-04-12T12:12:34.850-07:00i have fold it on my pc. it's very pioneer int...i have fold it on my pc. it's very pioneer interacitve work for the industry. i am interested in digital interactive science. i still have issues processing the information in foldit. also, navigating and making use of the interface is a concern for me. i have always seen interaction as a closest way to understand the most complex in the simplest way. however, it is hard to do this to many scientific work especially because academic approach is more telling and showing and less doing. i am still studying on how to naturally overcome confusions when learning and i believe activities such as games have great goal of reaching out easier. nonetheless, i enjoyed foldit alot even though i didn't understand much about the field. i'm surprised that you took part in it.Rahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06125780360029548490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17282500.post-75843993285571836682009-05-09T18:49:00.000-07:002009-05-09T18:49:00.000-07:00Thank you! :) I've actually been pretty surprised ...Thank you! :) I've actually been pretty surprised that anyone would enjoy my boring thesis paper, though I do think the information within is very valuable. Hard-earned, anyway. :p

Glad those little observations helped. Every time I make a game I learn how much my intuition diverges from reality. Fortunately, I'm bringing it closer each time. ;) Hopefully some of these gleanings can help you get a little closer too.

Foldit is an awesome project. It still has a long way to go, but it is far ahead of most anything else in its field. I'd say it's about the place that World of Goo was at three and a half months into development.

Quote from the 2D Boy blog:
"the skeleton of the game is now in place and at this point we started playtesting. at first we wondered if we were showing the game to the right people. why are they so bad at it? do they simply suck? it shouldn’t be so difficult to figure this game out! it would take months of playtesting to get it feeling good and to not lose non-gamers after 30 seconds of play. if you play this version, pay attention to your frustration and confusion levels as you try to work through the puzzles. that should give you an indication of how far we still had to go."

Describes Foldit almost perfectly.

And at the same time, gives me much hope.axchohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00476494070603611505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17282500.post-14456417193846808362009-05-03T17:02:00.000-07:002009-05-03T17:02:00.000-07:00Wow! I especially love the little observations like for example that seemingly redundant puzzles can help players reinforce the skills they have learned.

I didn't know you were working for fold-it. I really think it's an awesome project even though I haven't tried it yet. I watched a couple of videos though and most importantly, the whole idea is quite brilliant!Krystian Majewskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11575248324136515649noreply@blogger.com
